Want to start eating better? Maybe your doctor or nutritionist has recommended it. Maybe you just feel sluggish and think healthier eating could help. Maybe you want to prevent serious chronic diseases and other health conditions.
These are all great reasons, but can you actually make better meals happen? Not just for a day or week, but for the long-term? Happily, making healthy meals consistently and sustainably isn’t rocket science. But it does take a solid foundation of supportive thinking and mindsets.

Not sure if thinking and beliefs are getting in your way?
It can be tricky to assess our thoughts around cooking because thinking happens on both a superficial level and a deep-down level. Asked if making healthy meals is important, most people would immediately answer, “Yes, of course! ‘Food Is Medicine,’ right?”
But if we really want to achieve greater meal making success, it is our deep-down thinking that needs to be probed. In other words, when push comes to shove, do we so value our health that we will find a way to pull together meals that support good health, despite the many obstacles that modern life throws on the path?
Happily, understanding our deep-level thinking doesn’t require any kind of fancy psycho-analysis. Just think back over the past few days or weeks. How often did you make and eat meals that you felt good about? All or most of the time? Half the time? Occasionally? Not very often at all?
If we come across repeated instances when healthy and satisfying meal making got pushed aside in favor of other things, then it’s likely that at the deep-down level, our thinking doesn’t really support healthy meal making and eating. Without this kind of support, prioritizing regular meal making will be a continuous source of frustration, disappointment and lack of success.
